The organizer of the RAREMET-2026 Congress - Giredmet JSC and the Indian TEXMiN Foundation have signed a memorandum of understanding

Giredmet JSC (the Scientific Division of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation) and the Indian TEXMiN Foundation (TEXMiN: Technology Innovation in Exploration & Mining Foundation) as part of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-ISM: Indian Institute of Technology (Indian school of mines) have signed a strategic memorandum of understanding. On behalf of Giredmet JSC, the agreement was signed by Konstantin Ivanovskikh, Deputy Director for Science and Innovation.

The signing took place in the presence of Shivkumar Kalyanaraman, Chief Executive Secretary of the Indian Anusandhan National Research Foundation, India's highest authority for strategic management of financing and promotion of scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of science and technology.

The memorandum is intended to form the basis for strategic cooperation in the field of mineral processing technologies, from exploration and enrichment to the creation of modern functional materials for high-tech industries. The partnership is focused on joint research and development of technological processes and equipment, the production of high-purity metals and alloys, the creation of materials for electronics, optics and photonics, as well as the exchange of knowledge and competencies in a wide ecosystem of rare metals.

Under the agreement, the parties will implement joint research and development in the field of rare metal processing technologies, including pilot testing and technology transfer of the Giredmet Institute to the Texmin site within the framework of the research park model, which is engaged in commercialization of research results (Technology Translation Research Park). The partnership will cover hydrometallurgical technologies for processing lithium-ion battery waste with extraction of valuable metals, as well as solutions for the involvement of critical minerals from accumulated man-made waste, tailings dumps, poor and difficult-to-enrich ores.

It is planned to explore the possibilities of digital twins, intelligent processing plants, the use of artificial intelligence systems, machine learning and sensory monitoring. The memorandum provides for an increase in the level of technological readiness of the solutions being developed and the creation of demonstration sites, including those focused on industrial use.

Cooperation also involves the exchange of experts, the development of specialized educational programs with leading universities in our countries, as well as consulting and technical support for government agencies and industrial companies on projects and policies in the field of critical metals and materials. Specialists and managers of the TEXMiN Foundation are scheduled to participate in the RAREMET-2026 Congress, which Giredmet JSC will hold on May 20-22 in Moscow.

Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-ISM) and Chairman of the Governing Board of the TEXMiN Foundation, emphasized: "Critical materials and rare metal technologies are of key importance for India's energy transition, the development of the electronics industry and strategic industries. The partnership with the Giredmet Institute of the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation combines international expertise and translational research capabilities, contributing to strengthening India's technological independence in the field of rare metals and modern materials."

"The partnership with TEXMiN is an important step in strengthening international cooperation in the field of export development of our integrated technological solutions for the production of materials based on rare metals. By combining the deep competencies of the Giredmet Institute in the processing of mineral raw materials containing RM (rare metals) and REM (rare earth metals), metallurgy of rare metals, technologies for separating rare metals and obtaining functional materials based on them with the Texmin translational research ecosystem, we create the basis for the accelerated launch of promising technologies for pilot and industrial the level of the entire rare metal production chain. Our cooperation will contribute to the development of technologies for the extraction, separation and refining of rare metals, technologies for recycling secondary mineral resources, as well as, of course, the expansion of expert and scientific exchange," underlined. Konstantin Ivanovskikh.

Andrey Goliney, Director of the Chemical Technology Cluster of Rosatom Science JSC, the managing organization of Giredmet JSC, also noted that Russian-Indian scientific and technical cooperation in the field of rare and rare earth metals is of particular importance in the context of the global transformation of raw materials and technological chains. Such cooperation meets the long-term interests of both countries, contributes to strengthening technological sovereignty, developing joint research, training personnel and creating new industrial solutions. It is expected that this cooperation will continue to expand, including through new joint projects, expert events, and the development of direct links between scientific organizations and industrial partners in Russia and India.
