As part of the working visit of the delegation of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporationto Vietnam, specialists from Giredmet JSC (part of the Rosatom Chemical Technology Cluster) met with representatives of Vinacomin - Minerals Holding Corporation (a subsidiary of the Vietnamese Coal and Mining Corporation, TKV). The negotiations were held under the coordination of the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation representative office in Vietnam.
The parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of processing of mineral raw materials containing rare and rare earth metals, as well as titanium-containing ores. JSC Giredmet was represented at the meeting by Konstantin Ivanovskikh, Deputy Director for Science and Innovation of JSC Giredmet. He presented the Institute's technology portfolio, which includes a full cycle of work – from ore processing to the production of high-purity rare earth metals, their compounds and finished materials for the electronic, magnetic and nuclear industries. The Vietnamese side has shown great interest in Russian technologies for the enrichment of mineral raw materials, the production of concentrates of rare earth metals (REM), liquid extraction separation of REM, as well as the processing of ilmenite raw materials to produce titanium products.
"Representatives of Vinacomin became interested in the technologies of the Giredmet Institute for the enrichment of mineral raw materials based on monazites and xenotim, for the separation of rare earth metals by liquid extraction, as well as technologies for the production of metallic REM and magnetic materials based on them. In addition, the Vietnamese side paid special attention to the technology of processing ilmenite raw materials to produce titanium and other products," Konstantin Ivanovskikh said. He also noted that Giredmet has its own developments in the field of sorption and extraction separation of REM, refractory and precious metals, technologies for the synthesis of high-purity compounds and the cultivation of single crystals, as well as competencies in the design and automation of small and medium-capacity production facilities.
Dmitry Raspopin, Director of the Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation representative office in Vietnam, noted that the development of cooperation in the field of rare earth metals and titanium is a direct continuation of previous negotiations between Rosatom and TKV, during which the parties agreed to move on to specific projects in the field of mineral processing, new materials and energy. Dmitry Raspopin stressed that Rosatom (including its institutes such as JSC Giredmet) is ready to offer its Vietnamese partners comprehensive technological solutions adapted to local conditions, with an emphasis on localization and transfer of competencies.
Commenting on the results of the meeting, Nguyen Tien Man, Deputy General Director of TKV, stressed: "TKV is in the process of restructuring aimed at sustainable development, technological improvement and added value growth. Cooperation with the world's leading technology corporations, such as Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation , is an objective necessity for us. We highly value Giredmet's expertise in processing rare earth and titanium raw materials and see good prospects for joint pilot projects. We look forward to the establishment of working groups as soon as possible and the transition to practical implementation.
The parties agreed to work out specific areas of cooperation, including assessing the possibility of adapting Russian technologies to Vietnamese mineral raw materials and conducting joint technological research. An agreement was also reached on the creation of specialized working groups between the divisions of TKV, Vinacomin and Rosatom structures to accelerate the transition to pilot projects.
At the end of the meeting, Konstantin Ivanovskikh invited Vietnamese partners to participate in the International Congress. RAREMET-2026, organized by Giredmet JSC. The event will take place in Moscow on May 20-22, 2026. Representatives of Vinacomin – Minerals Holding Corporation accepted the invitation and confirmed their intention to send their delegation to the congress.
