On January 29, the Institute of Giredmet JSC (part of the Scientific Division of Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation) hosted an introductory meeting of the Organizing Committee of the International Congress on Rare Metals, Materials and Technologies RAREMET-2026 (RAREMET-2026), which will be held in Moscow in May 2026. The event was attended by key organizers, scientific supervisors, representatives of academic science, partner organizations and government authorities.
The main purpose of the meeting was to elaborate in detail the concept, objectives and structure of the upcoming Congress, which is positioned as Russia's largest international discussion platform in the field of rare and rare earth metals. During the meeting, the participants heard a report by Konstantin Ivanovskikh, co–Chairman of the RAREMET 2026 Organizing Committee, Deputy Director for Science and Innovation of Giredmet JSC, which provided basic information and suggestions on key aspects of the preparation of the Congress: the concept and objectives, structure and preliminary program of the event. The members of the organizing committee discussed issues of financing and attracting partners of the Congress, information support for the event, publication of scientific materials based on its results, and also made suggestions for supplementing the program. We also paid special attention to the international component of the Congress. It is expected that representatives of more than 15 countries will visit the RAREMET-2026 site, and the largest delegation will be represented by India, whose industrial companies are already forming an active demand for critical materials and related Russian technologies.
"Strong technological solutions capable of influencing the market, shaping a new technological order and our country's place in it, are formed through the development of science and in a reasonable depth of mutually beneficial cooperation in the international space. It is for this dialogue that the RAREMET 2026 Congress was created, so that scientific developments could be transformed into specific industrial productions and products, especially in partnership with friendly countries from the BRICS, South Asia and the CIS. Our goal is to introduce each other to the latest developments in the field of rare metal technologies, using the congress platform as an effective mechanism for initiating and implementing joint projects and rapid implementation of innovations that meet the needs of the real sector of the economy," said Konstantin Ivanovskikh, Deputy Director for Science and Innovation at Giredmet JSC, Co–Chairman of the RAREMET–2026 organizing Committee..
"It is necessary to form a unified image of the industry, combining fundamental research, applied research and industrial production into one efficient chain. It is precisely this goal — consolidation — that the RAREMET 2026 Congress is pursuing. We have engaged leading scientific schools: academic, industry, and university science. Each area has its own approach and unique competencies, and only their synergy will ensure not only technological sovereignty, but also leadership in the field of rare metals. On behalf of our institute, I can say that we are actively involved in this process: we are developing technologies for the separation of rare earth metals and conducting large-scale metrological work on their analysis, which is a critically important area today. Obtaining pure rare earth metals is only the first step; it is important to find effective use for them. Our institute will take an active part in the work of the congress," said Andrei Voshkin, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy Director for Scientific Work at the N.S. Kurnakov Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Co–chairman of RAREMET-2026.
The RAREMET-2026 International Congress will be held in Moscow on May 20-22, 2026 at the RTU MIREA site. The scientific program of the Congress will include plenary and panel sessions, round tables, four thematic conferences RAREMET:Minerals, RAREMET:Metallurgy, RAREMET:Chemistry and RAREMET:Functional, as well as the specialized exhibition RAREMET:Expo for the presentation of technologies, equipment and services. In addition, working meetings at the intergovernmental level are planned. More than 500 scientists, specialists and business representatives from Russia, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Laos, Turkey, Niger, Mongolia, China, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, the CIS and other regions are expected to participate.
